A 2011 University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate with a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism, Ryan Hruska is an experienced play-by-play announcer. His background includes serving as the 2017 studio host for Lincoln Saltdogs baseball and as a former radio color commentator for Doane College football. In addition, Ryan has dedicated experience announcing many high school football, basketball, and baseball games.

HS State Baseball Recap: Class A

First Round
Opening-round action delivered an immediate upset alongside extra-inning drama. #8 Millard South stunned top-seeded Omaha Westside with a 6–3 victory, while #4 Millard North survived a tight 3–2 contest against #5 Creighton Prep in 9 innings. On the other side of the bracket, #2 Lincoln East took care of business with a 7–3 win over #7 Grand Island, and #6 Papillion LaVista South secured a 6–1 win over #3 Lincoln Southwest.

Elimination Round
Teams fought to extend their season in tense, low-scoring games. Omaha Westside rebounded to eliminate Creighton Prep with a narrow 3–2 victory, while Grand Island outlasted Lincoln Southwest in an 8-inning, 5–2 battle.

Winner's & Semifinal Rounds
In Bracket 1, Millard North rolled past Millard South 11–1 to remain unbeaten. Millard South then eliminated Omaha Westside 8–1 in Game 9 to set up a rematch with Millard North, but Millard North held on for a 4–2 victory to capture Bracket 1. In Bracket 2, Lincoln East powered past Papillion LaVista South 8–1. Papillion LaVista South eliminated Grand Island 3–1 in the lower bracket, but Lincoln East dominated the bracket final 12–5 to punch its ticket to the championship.

Championship Game
The Class A State Championship featured a high-stakes extra-inning showdown between Millard North and Lincoln East. Millard North edged Lincoln East 6–5 in 8 innings at Werner Park to claim the Class A State Championship title.

HS State Baseball Recap: Class B

First Round
Class B opened with tight pitching duels and defensive battles. Top-seeded Skutt Catholic held off #8 Lincoln Pius X 4–3, while #5 Gross Catholic topped #4 Gretna East 4–2. In Bracket 2, #2 Elkhorn North pitched a clean 5–0 shutout against #7 Seward, and #3 Platte Valley needed 9 innings to slip past #6 Lincoln Standing Bear 8–7.

Elimination Round
Gretna East kept its season alive by edging Lincoln Pius X 3–2, while Seward bounced back with a convincing 7–2 win over Lincoln Standing Bear.

Winner's & Semifinal Rounds
Skutt Catholic leaned on dominant pitching to defeat Gross Catholic 1–0 in the Bracket 1 upper final. Gross Catholic responded in the loser's bracket by routing Gretna East 12–4, but Skutt Catholic clinched the bracket with a thrilling 5–4 win in 9 innings. In Bracket 2, Elkhorn North shut out Platte Valley 7–0. Seward eliminated Platte Valley 2–1, but Elkhorn North proved too strong, rolling to a 9–1 win over Seward to win Bracket 2.

Championship Game
In a dramatic, extra-inning championship contest, Skutt Catholic outlasted Elkhorn North 10–9 in 8 innings at Werner Park to take home the Class B State Championship trophy.

HS State Baseball Recap: Class C

First Round
Class C featured high-scoring offense along with methodical opening-round victories. #1 Central City/Centura claimed a 4–1 win over #8 St. Paul/Palmer, while #5 Mt. Michael Benedictine put on an offensive showcase in a 15–1 rout of #4 GACC-WPB. In Bracket 2, #2 Auburn defeated #7 Arlington 6–3, and #3 Lincoln Lutheran held off #6 Roncalli Catholic 5–3.

Elimination Round
GACC-WPB eliminated St. Paul/Palmer, while Roncalli Catholic mounted its comeback run by eliminating Arlington 7–2.

Winner's & Semifinal Rounds
Mt. Michael Benedictine edged past Central City/Centura 6–5 in a close Bracket 1 matchup. GACC-WPB then eliminated Central City/Centura 2–0, but Mt. Michael Benedictine pitched a 6–0 shutout against GACC-WPB to secure Bracket 1. In Bracket 2, Lincoln Lutheran topped Auburn 3–0. Roncalli Catholic fought through the elimination bracket by defeating Auburn 5–2 and handing Lincoln Lutheran a 2–1 loss to force an "if necessary" Game 14. Lincoln Lutheran answered back in the rematch, winning 6–5 to capture Bracket 2.

Championship Game
The Class C final at Werner Park came down to a pitching and defensive battle. Lincoln Lutheran held off Mt. Michael Benedictine 3–2 to win the Class C State Championship

HS Basketball Recap: Week 10

Girls Highlights: The regular season concluded with high-stakes drama and massive scoring shifts. Omaha Westside and Omaha North battled in one of the highest-scoring games of the year, with Westside coming out on top 86-82, while Grand Island managed a dominant 57-27 win over North Platte. In a defensive masterpiece, St. Mary’s narrowly escaped Ainsworth with a 41-40 victory, and Elm Creek edged past Overton in a 40-39 thriller.

The week also saw dominant performances as teams geared up for the postseason. Omaha Nation showcased its stifling defense in an 87-17 win over Tiospaye Topa (SD), while Pender secured a hard-fought 51-48 victory over Oakland-Craig. Other notable finishes included Pierce’s 39-34 win against Boone Central and a convincing 63-43 win by Crete over North Platte, proving that momentum is shifting as the bracket season begins.

Boys Highlights: The boys' slate was defined by games that went down to the final buzzer. Tri County managed a razor-thin 44-43 victory over Sandy Creek, while David City secured a 48-45 win against H&H. Gothenburg also found itself in the win column with a 36-35 defensive struggle against Grand Island Central Catholic, and Ponca fell just short in a 35-33 heartbreaker against Wayne.

While some games were close, others were offensive showcases. Millard South dismantled Norfolk 98-60, and Walthill topped Tri County Northeast in an 87-77 shootout. The most staggering margin of the week came from Gordon-Rushville, which defeated Morrill 97-10. Meanwhile, North Platte St. Patrick’s displayed its scoring depth with an 83-63 win over Cambridge, and Crete handled North Platte in a 66-20 rout.

HS Basketball Recap: Week 9

Girls Highlights: Week 9 was highlighted by several nail-biting finishes and defensive clinics. North Bend Central squeezed past Wayne in a 36-35 defensive struggle, while Hemingford secured a 42-41 victory over South Platte. In a clash of giants, Omaha Westview narrowly defeated Bellevue West 69-68, a game that featured multiple lead changes in the final minutes.

The scoring gap was much wider in other contests as Omaha Westview later overwhelmed Omaha South 83-1. Lincoln Christian also flexed its muscles with an 88-26 victory over Omaha Concordia. Other key results included Hitchcock County’s 70-21 win over Wallace and Gordon-Rushville’s 57-27 victory against Leyton, highlighting a week where the top-ranked teams began to separate themselves from the field.

Boys Highlights: The boys' division featured a mix of out-of-state victories and local shootouts. Omaha Westview put on a scoring clinic with a 93-59 win over Omaha South, while Sandhills/Thedford fell to Twin Loup in a high-octane 78-68 battle. Omaha Nation managed to hold off Flandreau Indian (SD) in a 45-44 thriller, and Adams Central secured a one-point victory over Columbus Lakeview, finishing 50-49.

Defensive dominance was also a major theme. Lingle-Ft. Laramie (WY) held Morrill to just five points in an 85-5 victory, and Potter-Dix secured a 76-8 win over Banner County. Elsewhere, Lincoln Standing Bear defeated Blair 62-53, and Bishop Neumann handled Boys Town 49-36. These results showcased the growing gap between the state's powerhouses and the rest of the pack as February approached.
